While some are excited to see the new Galaxy S or Galaxy Note series from Samsung each year, others prefer a more rugged smartphone for their everyday use. The Galaxy S Active series from Samsung and AT&T are devices that have been well received from those who put their phones through more than the typical wear and tear. After a handful of leaks these last few months, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S8 Active and it will be available via pre-order on the 8th of August.
We first saw signs of life about the Galaxy S8 Active back in April of this year when a few tidbits of information was leaked. We were told what was said to be the model number and the codename for the device and this started to whet the appetite of those who were looking forward to it. Things went quiet for a few months after though but in July we saw was claimed to be the first live photographs of the Galaxy S8 Active from Samsung.
An alleged render of the device was leaked shortly after and then AT&T confirmed the device in the fine print of a Samsung promotion they are holding. Today, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S8 Active and says pre-orders will begin tomorrow, August 8th at the AT&T landing page for the device. The pre-order window is short though as the wireless carrier will make the new smartphone available in stores on August 11th.
The Galaxy S8 Active is made with military-grade materials, has a 5.8″ display, 4,000mAh capacity battery and is described as shatter, dust and water-resistant. We have two color options available at launch from AT&T with one being Meteor Gray and the other option being Titanium Gold. A full, non-contract/lease price has not been revealed yet, but the phone will be available on AT&T’s next plan for $28.34 for 30 months.
