Meizu’s CEO confirmed earlier that at least one variant of the Meizu 16—expected to be the Meizu 16 Plus—will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip, which is Qualcomm’s 2018 flagship SoC. This makes the Meizu 16 series interesting because up until now, the company’s choice had been limited when it came to selecting SoCs. Previous Meizu flagships had to feature either MediaTek SoCs or Samsung’s Exynos SoCs, but this will change with the Meizu 16 series. A few days ago, the phones received 3C certification. Now, they have been listed on TENAA.
A TENAA listing normally reveals quite a few specifications of any device, and it’s the same for the Meizu 16 as well as the Meizu 16 Plus. The photos posted on TENAA confirm the fact that the Meizu 16 Plus will have an in-display fingerprint sensor, as stated by the CEO of Meizu. The regular Meizu 16 also does not have a visible fingerprint sensor on the front or back, so it’s probable that it may have an in-display fingerprint sensor as well. On the back, both phones have a dual camera setup in a centered layout.
The TENAA listing reveals that the regular Meizu 16 will be powered by a 2,950mAh battery. It is expected to be powered by the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC instead of the Snapdragon 845. The dimensions of the Meizu 16 will be 150.5 x 73.5 x 7.2mm. It has an 18:9 display, but the display size is currently unknown. Both the Meizu 16 and the Meizu 16 Plus won’t have a display notch.
The Meizu 16 Plus will be powered by a bigger 3,570mAh battery. Its dimensions are 160.4 x 78.2 x 7.3mm. According to Meizu’s CEO, the phone will be cheaper than the Xiaomi Mi 8, which is already one of the cheapest Snapdragon 845-powered smartphones in China. If this turns out to be true, the Meizu 16 Plus could score high on value.
The Meizu 16 and the Meizu 16 Plus are confirmed to launch on August 8 at an event in China. The company has also posted official renders of the Meizu 16 Plus, which confirm the TENAA renders. As of now, information about the dual rear cameras and the phones’ RAM/storage configuration aren’t known yet, but the Meizu 16 Plus is shaping up to be a promising affordable flagship.
